Making new friends for Young Carers Awareness Day

Our Young Carers spent this year’s Young Carers Awareness Day meeting students with a similar background from another school.

The group welcomed peers from St Damian’s RC Science College to celebrate the day with them, taking part in a number of ‘getting to know you’ activities before sharing experiences of what it’s like being a Young Carer.

After ordering pizza for lunch, the two schools continued their fun with a game of ‘Guess Who?’ and posing for a commemorative group photograph.

In the evening, our Young Carers returned with their families for a special film night in the main hall, where they tucked into popcorn and sweets while watching the BFG.

Mrs Nicholls, Stockport Academy’s Designated Safeguarding and Child Protection Officer, said: “We’ve had a great day and it’s been superb for our Young Carers to share their experience with those from St Damian’s.

“Our families had a wonderful evening and it was fantastic to be able to celebrate these amazing, resilient, inspirational young people.”

Stockport Academy was the first school in the country to be awarded the Young Carers in Schools Gold Award. Read more about it here.
