Mr McCarron wins Headteacher of the Year at MEN Schools Awards

Stockport Academy’s Principal Mr McCarron was recognised as Headteacher of the Year at the MEN Schools Awards on Friday (July 10th).

Mr McCarron picked up the prestigious honour at a lavish ceremony at the Hilton hotel in Manchester City Centre, after being nominated by St Damian’s RC Science College, who put his name forward after describing him as ‘a warm and charismatic person who cares passionately about pupils and staff, and is dedicated to helping other schools as a National Leader of Education’.

After collecting his award on stage with Head Boy Luke Boon and Head Girl Ellie Leigh, Mr McCarron said: “I am absolutely delighted in receiving the MEN Headteacher of the Year Award.

“It has been a phenomenal year for the Academy achieving its best exam results ever, receiving a Good Ofsted and being recognised on the national stage for our work in regards to Young Carers, Inclusivity and Anti-bullying.  I would like to thank all the Governors, staff, parents and most of all the students for all their support and loyalty this year.  The MEN Award belongs to all of us.”

Stockport Academy was also shortlisted for Website of the Year at the ceremony, while Mrs Fox was nominated for School Support Staff of the Year.
