Paralympian stars in Stockport Academy SMSC Day

The visit of double Paralympic finalist Lauren Steadman was one of the highlights of another successful SMSC Day at Stockport Academy.

Lauren – who competes in the triathlon and as a swimmer – spoke to the whole of Year 10 about what it was like growing up with one arm and the challenges she has faced during her career. She then led a question and answer session with students before posing for photographs. Later, she tweeted they were a “great bunch of pupils”.

Elsewhere, the academy was a hive of activity with talks from Teenage Cancer Trust and Retrak – both of which have been supported by students during numerous fundraising activities throughout the year.

The theme of the day was ‘Healthy Lifestyles’ and students from Years 7 to 10 were involved in a range of workshops fitting into this topic, with talks from the school nurse, Stockport Without Abuse and MOSAIC.

Stockport Academy SMSC Coordinator Mrs Fox said: “We always set the bar high for our SMSC Days and this time around was no exception, with some excellent sessions delivered by fantastic speakers.

“Thank you to all the agencies who attended and we look forward to welcoming you back at our next SMSC Day in the new school year.”
