Stockport Academy’s High School Musical Bops To The Top

Our annual school production was hailed the ‘best ever’ after the final performance of High School Musical brought the house down on Friday night.

After two matinee shows and two evening performances, the cast and crew received a standing ovation for the hours and hours of hard work that clearly paid off.

The production – based on the smash hit Disney movie – tells the story of resident jock Troy Bolton and brainy Gabriella Montez teaming up to challenge the status quo at East High by auditioning for the school show, inspiring fellow classmates to also break the mould and follow their individual dreams.

Featuring popular hits such as ‘Breaking Free’, ‘Get’cha Head In The Game’, ‘Bop To The Top’ and ‘We’re All In This Together’, the show was a non-stop whirlwind of energy, excitement and enthusiasm.

Over two days the students performed for a total of eight primary schools – with Oak Tree, Adswood, Alexandra Park, Bridge Hall, St Matthews, Cale Green, St Georges and Meadowbank all attending daytime shows.

In the evenings, tickets were bought by families, friends, staff and even former students who were all keen to see the show for themselves.

Head of Performing Arts Mrs Campbell said: “I am so proud of everyone who has been involved in the production, from each member of the cast to all of the backstage crew. They’ve all worked so hard and put in so many hours of their own time and the level of professionalism and quality has really shone through as a result.

“The shows were amazing and it was great to see so much support from our local community – it really means so much to us to see so many familiar faces coming to watch and we already can’t wait for the next production!”

For the first time, our production has been professionally filmed and is available to buy as a DVD. Click here for details on how you can order a copy.
