Stockport Academy Celebrates Young Carers Day With Local Primary Schools
Young Carers from across Stockport were celebrated this week, as we opened our doors to students across the borough for Young Carers Awareness Day.
Students from Cale Green, Alexandra Park and Lark Hill Primary Schools joined our own group of Young Carers for a pizza lunch and party games, as an opportunity to meet others in similar situations to their own.
The event started off with a presentation from Robert Dimelow (Year 9) and Logan Ellis (Year 7) who explained what being a Young Carer means and how they are offered support at Stockport Academy. This was followed by slices of pepperoni and margherita pizza and then a raffle – with winners picking something to take home with them from a prize table.
Party games followed, with students enjoying a variety of activities before saying goodbye to their new friends.
Designated Safeguarding and Child Protection Officer Mrs Nicholls, who organised the day, said: “We are so proud of our Young Carers and they made such an effort to make our primary school guests feel welcome.
“We had a great afternoon and it was an excellent opportunity for our Young Carers to share their experiences and celebrate just how wonderful they are. Thank you also to Signpost Stockport For Young Carers and ProjectINC for attending and offering their support.”
