Stockport Academy Visited By Maths Royalty

Stockport Academy rolled out the red carpet for Maths royalty this week.

Colin Hegarty, the founder of Hegarty Maths program, spent a full day here meeting students and hearing about their experiences using the platform.

Hegarty Maths encourages students to learn independently about Maths through a series of online tests and exercises, with all year groups at the school spending time working on it to hone their numeracy skills and develop their mathematical understanding

As well as giving motivational assemblies to all students throughout the day, Mr Hegarty also enjoyed a lunch meeting with a group of our Year 11 students, where he asked them about what they enjoyed about Hegarty Maths and how they thought it could be improved.

He also met with Year 11 student Jack Edwards, who has spent an astounding 116 hours so far since September using the program.

Finally, at the end of a very busy day, Mr Hegarty spoke with parents who attended our Year 11 Parents Evening to give them advice on how they can further support their child’s progress in preparation for this summer’s GCSE exams.

Stockport Academy Head of Mathematics Mrs Mackintosh said: “We were honoured to host Mr Hegarty here today and can’t thank him enough for taking the time out of his busy schedule to visit us.

“Our students have really enjoyed using the program this year and they got a lot out of meeting the man behind the Maths!”
