Stockport Academy Welcomes National Schools Commissioner

Stockport Academy opened its doors to one of the most senior figures of the education sector recently, with the visit of National Schools Commissioner Sir David Carter.

Following a tour around the school, Sir David visited several lessons including Drama, Dance and PE, speaking with students and teachers about life at Stockport Academy to find out more about the secrets to its success.

The academy achieved its best ever GCSE results this year and was also shortlisted for the final eight for the National TES Secondary School of the Year Award. In September it was also honoured with the BIG Anti-Bullying Award for the third year in a row.

Sir David is one of a number of distinguished guests to visit the academy, with the school also hosting Ofsted Chief Inspector Amanda Spielman and her predecessor Sir Michael Wilshaw over the last year.

Janine McCann, Stockport Academy Principal, said: “We are incredibly proud of our school and its students and it was an honour to be able to showcase everything we have achieved during Sir David Carter’s visit. On behalf of everyone at Stockport Academy I would like to thank him for taking the time out of his busy schedule to visit us.”

Sir David Carter, National Schools Commissioner, said: “It was clear to me that the students at Stockport Academy are happy, bright, articulate young people who enjoy their learning, while I was also impressed by the excellent leadership of the academy. I loved my visit and would like to thank everyone at Stockport Academy for the warm welcome I received.”
