Stockport Academy Year 9 students get down to business

Our Year 9 business leaders made exactly the right impression as they helped to host some of the UK’s leading companies this morning.

The school opened its doors up to 35 delegates as part of Business In The Community’s (BITC) ‘Seeing Is Believing’ event, which has been showcasing the relationship between Stockport Academy and Lex Autolease.

Representatives from organisations including Manchester Airport Group, Barclays, Timpsons, National Grid, Autotrader and MAN Diesel & Turbo were welcomed by students as school doors opened, before the student group led a presentation on the challenges facing young people in preparing themselves for the world of work.

Students and delegates worked in groups to discuss issues such as their aspirations for the future and the most important motivating factors in choosing a career.

Assistant Principal Mrs Sorby said: “The professional conduct and confidence displayed by our Year 9 Business Leaders today was absolutely outstanding and we are so proud of them.

“To speak in front of a hall full of accomplished individuals and genuinely impress them all is no mean feat and the feedback we’ve had from our guests today was positively glowing.

“Our work with BITC and Lex Autolease has been immensely rewarding and we are looking forward to building on this success for many years to come.”
