Stockport Academy embraces World Book Day

Students and staff fully got into the spirit of World Book Day yesterday (3rd March), with a wide range of literary characters on show around school throughout the day.

From being signed in at reception by Cruella De Vil to having a music lesson with Maleficent, it was a day to remember at Stockport Academy as the fancy dress content became quite competitive.

All year groups got involved with some truly fantastic costumes ranging from The Invisible Man and the Queen of Hearts to Sherlock Holmes and an Oompa Loompa. We even got to play our own real-life game of ‘Where’s Wally’ in the school grounds – with no less than three of them!

At lunch students were able to create their own comic or book token, before everyone gathered in the atrium for some costume judging, with the winners being rewarded with a trip to the Trafford centre with lunch included.

Principal Mr McCarron - who turned out for the day as the Mad Hatter – said: “What a fantastic day we’ve had in school. Everyone’s costumes looked great and it was really something else to see some of our favourite books brought to life by our creative staff and students.

“Well done to everyone who got involved. They will now receive a non-uniform day on monday (7th March) as a thank you for going above and beyond for World Book Day."
