Stockport Academy festive fundraising tops £1,000

Stockport Academy students and staff have been learning about the true meaning of Christmas by working hard to raise vital funds for families and colleagues affected by Storm Desmond.

The academy has held several charity events throughout December to support families at sister school Richard Rose Central Academy in Carlisle who have been hit by recent floods caused by Storm Desmond. Many of those affected, including students, parents and staff across the academy, will be unable to spend Christmas at home this year.

Highlights include a dance show and carol concert, while students and staff also donated to wear a Christmas jumper for a day instead of their usual uniform. In total, their efforts raised £1,086.

Stockport Academy Principal Mr McCarron said: “Everyone at the school has been touched by the devastating events caused by the extreme weather in Cumbria and our hearts go out to those affected by the flooding.

“Hopefully this will go a small way towards restoring a bit of normality to their lives this Christmas.”
