Stockport Academy strikes sporting gold

Stockport Academy has been awarded the prestigious School Games Gold Award.

The honour recognises the opportunities students are given in school to take part in sport and build their leadership skills on the sporting field. It also rewards schools that focus on engaging students who would otherwise be less active to get involved in physical activity.

Along with regular Girls Active days led by Stockport Academy’s GLAM Squad, our facilities regularly host Primary School sports tournaments with the Stockport Schools Sports Partnership. These have included activities such as athletics, football and tri-golf.

These sessions are supported by our Sports Leaders, who teach younger students the rules of each competition and then referee the tournaments themselves.

Head of PE Mr Sumner said: “I am really proud that Stockport Academy has been presented with the School Games Gold Award and this wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our Sports Leaders.

“These students give up their own free time outside of school to promote an active lifestyle to their younger peers and their hard work and positive attitude really is something to be admired.”
