Stockport Academy students star on stage for Annie

The curtain was raised last night for Annie – this year’s school production.

The musical – featuring songs such as ‘Tomorrow’, ‘It’s A Hard Knock Life’ and ‘Maybe’ featured students in every year group including the Sixth Form.

Year 8 student Nicole Bowden starred as the title role, putting in a stellar performance alongside Beth Kirby’s villainous Miss Hannigan and Nancy Kirby who played Mr Warbucks.

For those not familiar with the tale, the story follows the little orphan Annie who is finding it hard living in Miss Hannigan’s orphanage and is desperate to find her parents. As she tries to plot her escape, a twist of fate sees her befriend the billionaire Mr Warbucks – with the unlikely friendship changing both of their lives forever.

Tonight will be the third performance in three days, with students playing a matinee on Monday to Year 5 and 6 students at St Matthews’, St George’s, Cheadle Heath and Alexandra Park Primary schools.

Drama Teacher Mr McCarthy, who directed the production, said: “Every student involved in Annie – both cast and crew – have worked incredibly hard and their efforts certainly show.

“I couldn’t be prouder of them and would like to thank them all for their commitment to one of the highlights of our school calendar. They were all amazing – well done.”
