Stockport Academy students sum up success in Maths Challenge

A number of our students are celebrating after performing extremely well in the recent Intermediate UK Maths Challenge (IMC).

The exam took place at the start of February, with 30 students from Stockport Academy entering the competition. The paper takes the format of multiple choice questions.

More than a third of our entrants scored highly enough to be awarded either a Bronze or Silver grade, which is no mean feat – click on the link below to download the exam paper and have a go yourself!

However, the Maths Challenge isn’t yet over for one Year 9 student. Dominik Ciesynski achieved the best score in his year, doing so well that he’s qualified for a follow-on round of the IMC called the ‘Grey Kangaroo’. He’ll be taking this test on 17th March – well done Dom!

Numeracy Coordinator Ms Brown said: “The IMC is taken by students across the country and to have so many reach Bronze and Silver level at Stockport Academy is a superb result.

“We’re all very excited for Dom to sit his Grey Kangaroo and of course the Junior Maths Challenge, which takes place on 28th April for Years 7 and 8.”

Congratulations to everyone who took part, in particular those named below for achieving their Bronze and Silver certificates:

Silver

Aaron Mills, Luke Boon, Anthony Strong, Adam Webster, Megan Deans, Humza Muhammed, Dominik Cieszynski.

Bronze

Faye Reed, Robert Carrs, Nancy Kirby, John Hibbert, Daniel Broom, Lucy Hillier.
