Our Awards

Our school values are 'Believe, Aspire, Achieve, Respect', and part of this ethos involves the Academy and its students striving for success at every opportunity. We are proud to show that these efforts have recognised not only on a local, but also a national scale over the last few years - here are some examples of the awards we have won along the way.

BIG Anti-Bullying Award

We have been awarded the BIG (Bullying Intervention Group) Anti-Bullying Award for the third year running and are the only school in Stockport to hold this. Read all about our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and the anti-bullying work throughout the school here.

TES Secondary School of the Year finalist

We were one of only eight schools in the country to be shortlisted for the TES (Times Educational Supplement) Schools Awards 'Secondary School of the Year' category, making us the first school in Stockport to achieve this honour. You can read more about this here.

Speaker's Schools Council Awards

We were awarded this badge in recognition of our excellent student council and the impact of student voice within the academy. Judges commented they were 'thrilled' to see the council involved in 'such inspiring and worthwhile activities' and were 'impressed' with the 'commitment and passion that school councillors dedicated themselves to their amazing projects'.

Inspiring IAG Award

We are proud to have achieved the IAG Award, which recognises the provision of high quality careers advice and guidance. Click here to read more.

Diana Award

Over the last four years we have been delighted to have had a number of successful Diana awards both for individuals and for groups of students. We have also been selected by the Diana Trust to be one of its showcase schools for practices to tackle bullying.

Sainsbury's School Games Gold Award

The Sainsbury's School Games Gold Award marks the fantastic work our PE staff have put into the PE programme during the academic year - covering not just time spent during the school day but also through after-school enrichment activities.

MEN Schools Awards

In 2015, our Executive Principal Mr McCarron was honoured at the Manchester Evening News Schools Awards with the title of 'Headteacher of the Year' - click here for more details.

Following on from this tremendous success, the Stockport Academy website was named as the School Website of the Year just 12 months later, highlighting the high regard the school is held in across Greater Manchester.

Discovering Democracy Award

Stockport Academy was presented with the British Youth Council's National Discovering Democracy Award by local MP Ann Coffey in 2016. The school was judged to deserve this prestigious honour based on our focus on raising social and political awareness among students, in particular through the work carried out by our Student Council.

Young Carers in Schools Gold Award

Stockport Academy was the only school in the country to receive the Gold Award for the Young Carers in Schools (YCiS) Programme in 2015.

Organised by the Carers' Trust, YCiS assesses schools on the support they offer young carers, as well as the training on offer to staff in identifying them and meeting their needs.

Show Racism the Red Card

In 2014, Stockport Academy students Holly Battrick, Emily Riley and Elisha Boycott claimed first prize in the Show Racism the Red Card School Competition. The students created a poster which was awarded the first prize in Year 7-9 artwork category of this national competition.

In 2015, Rebecca Little was awarded third prize in the same category for her poster, titled 'A world with colour is a lot less duller!' Rebecca accepted her prize at Anfield football ground in Liverpool at a special ceremony.

Accord Inclusivity Award

In January 2014, Stockport Academy was awarded first place in the Secondary School category of the Accord Inclusivity Awards - a national honour celebrating equality and respect for all.

Speaker's School Council Awards 2014

We first achieved this award in 2014 (a feat repeated in 2017 - see above) in recognition of our work with Student Voice. Please click here to read more about our excellent School Council.
