BBC journalist visits Stockport Academy for careers talk

BBC Health Correspondent Dominic Hughes visited Stockport Academy today to talk to Year 7 students about his job and how to tell an engaging story.

Dominic kept his audience enthralled as he described his time reporting all over the world, including Australia, Brussels, Seoul and many more interesting and exotic places.

He described how he reported on the 2004 tsunami, the football World Cup in South Korea and more recently the junior doctors strike. Dominic gave tips on how to write an interesting article so now the pressure is on for Year 7s to write the best story - with Year 8 students meeting Dominic in a week's time!

Mrs Phillips, who organised this morning's talk, said: "It has been a great privilege and pleasure to have Dominic join us today – his accounts of his experiences as a journalist have been really well received. He gave Year 7 some super tips about structuring and writing their own stories and reports and I know he has inspired and motivated the year group.

"On behalf of the academy I would like to thank him for his time and we look forward to seeing him again next week with our Year 8s."
