LionHeart Challenge inspires at Stockport Academy

Our Y9 students demonstrated their entrepreneurial skills yesterday as they competed in the LionHeart Challenge.

The all-day task saw students split into nine groups, who then spent the morning coming up with an idea for a project that would benefit the local community in some way.

As well as inventing the idea itself, they also had to figure out how it would be funded and marketed, with a host of creative solutions coming from the different teams.

After lunch, each group had to deliver a three-minute presentation in front of a panel of judges, which consisted of representatives from the Chartered Management Institute, Greater Manchester Police and Lex Autolease.

Following much deliberation, the judges picked team three – led by Paige Doolan and Daniel Thornill – as the standout group and they will now go on to represent Stockport Academy in the regional round of the LionHeart Challenge later in the year. Their idea focused around supporting homeless people in the area by providing them with clothes and food donated by local businesses.

Mr Mackreth, who organised the day, said: “Our students really dug deep to come up with some unique ideas. It was great to see them come together with such detailed plans and there is no reason why the winning team can’t go all the way in the regional finals.”
