Ofsted Chief Inspector visits Stockport Academy

Stockport Academy welcomed an extremely important visitor through its doors on Friday.

Sir Michael Wilshaw, Ofsted’s Chief Inspector, spent the morning here touring our facilities and speaking to our students.

The head of the education regulator gave two assemblies on the charity work he has been carrying out to help build classrooms in Sri Lanka. He is aiming to raise £10,000 in donations, which he will then match with his own money after visiting the country and seeing the standards of education there first-hand.

He was also given a personal walk around the school by Mr McCarron, during which he engaged with students in their lessons, before meeting with our Head Boy and Head Girl.

Mr McCarron said: “It was an honour to welcome Sir Michael to Stockport Academy and we thoroughly enjoyed having him here. I have known him for a very long time and on giving the assemblies to students he showed that he had lost nothing of the skills that made him an exemplary practitioner and an outstanding Headteacher.

“I would like to thank Sir Michael for coming to see us – he is more than welcome to come back whenever he likes as we continue our journey to outstanding school status.”
