Stockport Academy Summer School is ahead of the class

The Summer holidays haven’t stopped Stockport Academy’s newest students from getting a headstart in the classroom.

Over 100 incoming Year 7 pupils have spent the week at the academy as part of its Summer School, offering them the chance to make new friends and settle into secondary school life well before the bell rings for the start of the new term.

Workshops throughout the five-day programme, which is completely free for students who are starting at the academy in September, included tank-building, dance, gardening, baking and arts and crafts. This is the fifth year Stockport Academy has offered Summer School to new starters.

Executive Principal Frank McCarron said: “Our Summer School gives new students a taste of life at Stockport Academy and we’ve found it really helps them hit the ground running come the start of term.

“Not only do they have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the school building, but they also get to know the staff and gain the confidence to begin secondary school in the best possible manner.”

Student Xander Wilks, who will officially start at the academy when it reopens on September 5th, said: “I’m confident about starting school because now I know more people, I’ve made new friends and I know my way around the school. I can’t wait until September!”

A big thank you goes to the Lex Autolease staff who came to help our Summer School students maintain the Reflection Garden as part of Gardening Club.
