Free books leave Stockport Academy students buzzing

Stockport Academy’s Year 7 students – all 190 of them - are being given a free book as part of a drive to promote reading within school.

The academy is a member of the BookBuzz reading programme, a national initiative organised by Book Trust, which supports teachers in encouraging students to read for pleasure.

BookBuzz has recently donated £1,500 worth of books to the school for Year 7 students, who can choose from a range of 14 titles, including modern classics such as ‘I Am Malala,’ ‘An Eagle In The Snow’ and ‘My Brother Is A Superhero.’

Literacy Co-ordinator Ms Brown said: “BookBuzz is a superb idea and we can’t thank Book Trust enough for their support. We have always promoted a reading culture within the school and this gives our youngest students the perfect opportunity to develop good reading habits from the start.”
