Christmas Concert raises the roof with seasonal singalong

The annual Stockport Academy Christmas Concert took place last night, getting everyone well and truly in the mood for the festive season.

From ‘In The Bleak Midwinter’ to Frozen’s ‘Let It Go’ – the junior, senior and staff choirs had all bases covered when it came to getting into the Christmas Spirit.

The first half of the show had a reflective tone to it, with the Year 10 drama group performing monologues to depict the nativity story in between performances from the choir and steel band. Guests from the Christians in Schools Trust also spoke of the meaning behind Christmas and the significance of the traditional Christmas wreath.

It was an emotional night for Year 13 student Shaun Brady, who was playing his last ever Christmas Concert with us and signed off with a brilliant performance of ‘First Noel’ on his saxophone before dueting with Ms Stevenson for ‘O Little Town Of Bethlehem’.

The first half closed with a performance by Chip Kendall and the school choir, singing Chip’s new song ‘The Brightest Light Of All’ as the hall was lit up with the glow of the audience’s phone torches to create an amazing atmosphere.

After an interval of wine and mince pies for our adult guests, the party really got going with ‘Rocking Around The Christmas Tree’, ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’ and ‘Walking In A Winter Wonderland’

The night ended with a mass singalong of Slade’s classic ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ to ensure audience and performers alike left the hall feeling ready for the big day.

Head of EPA Mrs Campbell said: “We really raised the roof with the concert tonight and I’m glad so many people turned out for what was a fantastic community event.

“I am so proud of the students who have given up their time and effort to rehearse for this show and it’s really paid off as the night was one we’ll all remember for a very long time.”
