At Stockport Academy we highlight and target pupils who have achieved Level 5 in Y6 in Maths and English and ensure all staff are aware of this so they can ensure that this cohort is being appropriately challenged academically. We aim to challenge and inspire pupils to recognise their academic potential and strive beyond this. Students that have been identified will receive a letter home and will be invited to numerous events and activities to develop a variety of skills.
There are numerous Able and Talented activities both inside and outside of the classroom. Teachers differentiate lesson targets within the classroom to enable pupils to develop new skills and there are 2 Stretch and Challenge Teaching Assistants who facilitate weekly challenges and half-termly projects, among other activities to engage and motivate pupils.
We have numerous opportunities for pupils to get involved outside the classroom including; Y7 literacy and reading groups with Sixth form peer mentors, termly competitions, projects, weekly trivia puzzles and trips. Details of all of these activities, and those that are coming up, are available on the “Able and Talented” notice board in the atrium.
As parents, you have an important part to play in motivating and encouraging your child to participate in the various activities and ultimately to achieve their potential. We will keep you up to date via this web page, which will be kept up to date with the termly projects and competitions which the students have the opportunity to get involved in.
