Moving from Year 11 into Sixth Form College is an exciting and challenging time. At Stockport Academy, we make certain that you have all the support you need to settle into your A-Level courses and to achieve your full potential. We do this in many ways.
Stockport Academy Sixth Form has a dedicated Progress Team. Every student is in a tutor group led by a personal tutor trained to deliver careers information, advice and guidance, UCAS applications and personal statements as well as academic one to one support. Tutor time allows students to focus on developing their leadership skills through a structured approach to project work. This includes charity work, mentoring, sport’s coaching, student council activities and active roles in organising assemblies, celebrating success events and primary school liaison activities. We also provide a detailed programme of activities that allows for students to plan for University life and beyond. These include trips to universities, residential courses, driving lessons, cooking lessons and much more. Please see our enrichment page.
Target Setting and Academic Monitoring
Students at Stockport Academy Sixth Form are assessed every half-term against target grades that are set using a national target setting service called ALIS. Please go click here for further details. Students have six yearly one-to-one meetings with progress tutors following these assessment and at least two yearly meetings with the Sixth Form Manager in relation to their achievement at Stockport Academy Sixth Form. It is our aim to ensure that students are clear about their potential and that they have every opportunity to achieve their aspirations.
Student reports are sent home to parents one every term. The student report shows student attendance since September, students’ current achievement and teacher assessments against target grades. There is a parents evening once a year but parents are invited to contact both academic and progress tutors if they have any queries at any other times throughout the year.
Impartial one-to-one careers advice and guidance are available for all students studying at Stockport Academy. Students will be supported in developing an appropriate career plan and encouraged to take up work experience during their time here. We offer one-to-one interviews, careers workshops and access to a range of careers resources and software. We work closely with a Careers Personal Adviser based within the Sixth Form and have close links with local universities and to the National Apprenticeship Service in Stockport town centre.
