Our Specialism

Science

At Stockport Academy our specialism is Science supported by a theme of Business and Enterprise.

Our promotion of Science in the academy has led to massive uptake of Science at AS and A2 Level with around half of our Sixth Form taking Science subjects. Indeed, a group of highly-dedicated Sixth Formers are involved in our Science Peer Mentoring Scheme, which supports students in Years 10 and 11 taking Science GCSE courses. 

We have also taken Science out into the community by supporting local primary schools through taking teams of teachers and Sixth Formers into primary classrooms.

Our growing enrichment programme has led to a growth of Science-related clubs. STEM club has been a particular success, with students from across all year groups participating in a range of activities and challenges such as glider-building. Our Eco-Committee has also helped the academy secure Eco-Schools status through their work on energy conservation.  

Business and Enterprise

We believe that all students at the academy should have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the business world. Through our enterprise link with APS Group, students are benefitting from a reading mentor scheme that is having a major impact in improving students' reading ages and overall communication and literacy skills. In turn, students' aspirations to enter further and higher education increase. 

The academy also holds Business and Enterprise Days, with our previous Dragons-Denesque, Olympic themed 'Going for Gold Games' promoting key employability skills such as presentation techniques, research and marketing. Our recent Armed Forces themed enterprise day also showed that skills like teamwork and leadership are essential in gaining employment in this tough jobs market, as well as being an effective member of the Armed Forces.
