Science Specialism

As a science specialism Academy, the science faculty work hard to promote wider science issues in the school.  We have hosted our own version of the Royal Institutes Christmas lectures, looking at our place in the universe.

In December 2011, we hosted an NHS based version of 'Question Time', where students from Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 were able to ask and debate questions with a panel of doctors.

We will be working closely with the Science Learning Centre throughout this year and will be taking part in a series of activities from stargazing at Jodrell Bank to creative writing workshops using telescopes.

To promote environmental awareness, we have joined the Eco-Schools award programme.  Our Eco-Council have been working hard to promote environmental issues such as littering, recycling and saving energy.  We are of course striving for the prestigious green flag award.

Stockport Academy have also sponsored an Elephant at Chester Zoo and will be working on issues of conservation in India later this year.
