In order to enhance the curriculum, activities with outside agencies are carried out. Our links with why Wycliffe Hotel allow us to use the expertise of their head chef, in order to simulate cooking in an industrial kitchen.
We hold gifted and talented courses including craft days at which some of our most able students have the opportunity to learn more advanced skills.
At Key Stage 4, GCSE options include Textiles, Resistant Materials, Product Design and Food Technology. These courses are popular with students who enjoy practical work. The controlled assessment marks contribute 40% of the total marks with the remainder assessed on a 2 hour examination.
BTEC National Diploma in Fashion Design has proved a popular choise with our Sixth Form. Students are given the opportunity to develop practical and creative skills and to build on their theoretical knowledge. During the first year students have visited The Clothes Show Live in Birmingham in order to learn about the fashion industry first hand, watch live fasion shows and look at final year fashion students' work from leading universities. This course will prepare students for employment in the fashion industry, or enable progression onto higher education including degree level.
