Key Stage 4

 

ART

 

You can only choose one Art subject - Art and Design or Art and Design Textiles  - the descriptions of these courses follow:

 

ART AND DESIGN (GCSE) Unendorsed

THE COURSEWORK

During the two years you will be expected to develop work in the following areas:

  • painting and drawing
  • textiles
  • print making
  • 3D design and construction
  • And graphic design

The course is arranged as a series of projects.  These will cover a variety of subjects and processes and each lasts for about one term.  We will look at the work of other artists, both past and present, and all students will be expected to complete homework in a sketchbook.

 

ASSESSMENT

EXHIBITION

At the end of the course you have to exhibit at least three projects for your final exhibition.  This is assessed by your teachers and a visiting examiner and counts for 60% of the final mark.

TERMINAL TEST    

At the end of the 2 years you will also produce a 10 hour piece of work under exam conditions over 2 days which counts for 40% of the final mark.

 

TO DO WELL

You must enjoy Art and be enthusiastic, hard working and highly committed.  This subject requires continuous hard work so that skills improve. This is achieved by practice and work at home and after school.

 

ART AND DESIGN (GCSE) TEXTILES

 

THE COURSEWORK

  • printed and / or dyed materials
  • domestic textiles
  • constructed and / or applied textiles
  • fashion and / or costume

The course is arranged as a series of projects.  These will cover a variety of subjects and processes and each lasts for about one term.  We will look at the work of other artists, both past and present, and all students will be expected to complete homework in a sketchbook.
