Why study OCR Nationals in ICT?

OCR Level 2 Nationals in ICT are flexible, attainable qualifications in ICT which relate directly to the needs of employers.  Together, they give students a wide range of exciting options in preparation for the workplace or higher education. These qualifications will provide the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to start work, or progress to further study and is therefore suited to individuals aged 16+ especially those who are not quite sure what path they would like their career to take.

 

What skills will I gain from studying OCR Nationals in ICT?

OCR Nationals in ICT are challenging yet attainable qualifications which relate directly to the expectations of employers.  They give students hands-on experience in a wide range of career linked skills, while supporting their progression to the workplace or higher education. This programme includes ICT topics such as:

 

  • Creating computer graphics
  • Designing and creating a website
  • Creating sound using ICT
  • Designing and creating multimedia presentation

 

How will I be assessed?

All units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by an OCR Visiting Moderator.  There will be No external exam.

All units and the full award are graded: Pass; Merit; Distinction.

 

Where can OCR Nationals in ICT lead?

Progression into employment: These qualifications are designed to enable candidates to enter employment at operative or trainee level within a wide range of business environments. Such candidates would normally enter employment through a work-related training programme.  This programme can lead to many specialised careers including film production, advertising and marketing, product design, broadcasting and the music industry.  Other units provide a solid introduction to technical areas such as ICT system management, diagnostics and repair.

 

Progression to further qualifications: These qualifications have been designed to aid progression to GCE ICT or GCE Computing. They will also provide a basis for progression to other qualifications at Level 3 of the National Qualifications Framework.

What we expect from you:

You must have completed Unit 20 and the majority of Unit 1 from year 9. Enthusiasm for the subject is essential, with a willingness to work in independent study time.  A commitment to producing high quality coursework is needed as this is 100% coursework.

 Level 5 in Maths, English Language and ICT are essential.
