Key Stage 3
YEAR 7
In Year 7 there will be 2 tiers which pupils will be working towards HIGHER and FOUNDATION.
FOUNDATION
This scheme of work has ideally been written for pupils who have achieved a Level 3 and below or a low Level 4.
Throughout the scheme there is reference to the NNS, which for this scheme is taken from the Year 4-6 objectives. On occasions there are topics that have been used from the Year 7 framework, which is documented.
It is at the discretion of the individual subject teacher as to how they feel a group manages a particular topic, as to extend it to a higher level or just complete the basics. This will vary from group to group, but there can be an overlap created between the 2 tiers.
HIGHER
This scheme of work has been written with pupils who achieved a good level 4,5,and 6. This scheme of work has been written with the Year 7 National Numeracy Framework as referenced, and where appropriate extended beyond it. Again it will be upto the subject teacher to decide whether extension work is appropriate.
EXTENSION
Set 1 only will follow Level 6 work, which is issued with the scheme of work and highlighted with an asterix.
RESOURCES
The main resource for implementing the strategy is the New National Framework textbook 7+,7,7*. Neither resource should be used alone as the SOW illustrates there are other materials that could be considered for variety. Students will not be allowed to take textbooks home. Also there is a bank of worksheets and list of different ideas to consider for homework tasks on the shared drive.
YEAR 8
In Year 8 the scheme of work is split into 3 tiers FOUNDATION, CORE, EXTENSION.
FOUNDATION
This scheme concentrates on the Year 7 framework (Level 4 moving to Level 5) and dependant on group can overlap into the core work and the key objectives for Year 8.
CORE
This scheme of work follows the key objectives from the Year 8 framework (consolidation of Level 5 and start of Level 6).
EXTENSION
Set 1 only complete the extension having completed (or refreshed) the work at the CORE level (revision of Level 6 and mainly Level 7)
RESOURCES
The main resource for Foundation groups will be the New National Framework 8* book. The Core groups will use the New National Framework 8 book. The Extension groups will use the New National Framework 8+ book. Accompanying the scheme of work will be a folder of worksheets. Students will not be allowed to take textbooks home.
YEAR 9
In Year 9 the scheme of work is split into 3 tiers FOUNDATION, CORE and HIGHER. The scheme of work highlights the objectives to be covered by different groups and comes accompanied with worksheets.
SET 1 follows a consolidation of Level 7 and work at Level 8 and are entered for the SATS tier level 6-8
SET 2 follows a consolidation of Level 6 and work at Level 7 and are entered for the SATS tier level 5-7
SET 3/4 follows a revision of Level 5, but mainly Level 6 and are entered for the SATS tier Level 4-6
SET 5 follows revision of Level 4 and mainly Level 5 and are entered for the SATS tier 3-5
RESOURCES
The New National Framework series will be used with this year group. Set 1 will work from the 9+ book, set 2 & 3 will work from the 9 core book and set 4 will work from the 9* copy it will also be supplemented by worksheets provided in the resource file. Students will not be allowed to take textbooks home.
