Entry Requirements
You will need a satisfactory school record in terms of attendance, punctuality and behaviour. You will also need at least grades D and E in English Language and Mathematics (in either order).
To assess your results we will look at your best seven grades and will allocate points as follows:
|
Grade |
A* A B | C | D | E | F | G |
| Points | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
Achievement in vocational qualifications will be rewarded similarly. For example, a course which is the equivalent of four GCSEs will be scored as follows:
|
Distinction/merit |
Pass |
| 24 | 20 |
The points for the best seven grades will then be totalled.
The tables below show the minimum points for entry to different courses. The most appropriate course will be discussed with each individual student at interview.

Please note: There are specific requirements for some subjects. We strongly advise you to refer to the information on our individual course profiles when choosing courses.
You will be given an individual interview for admission to the academy and another when enrolling after receiving your GCSE results. We will discuss with you whether the subjects passed at Grade C or above form an appropriate basis for progression to the courses you have chosen.
Making Your Choices
Of course, you will want to choose subjects you enjoy and are good at. However, it is worth remembering that the combination of subjects you choose at this stage can be very important to your future studies or career. Some universities will accept any combination of subjects at Advanced Level, while others prefer a specific combination. If you are unsure about which subjects to study, please speak to your careers adviser, careers teacher or staff from the academy.
