Facilities
We moved into our new building on 10th November 2008 after briefly being based in the old building of the predecessor school.
Our sporting facilities include a fully equipped indoor sports hall, a three quarter size floodlit astro turf pitch and a smaller 5-a-side floodlit astro turf pitch. Both astro turf pitches are state of the art 3G standard pitches used by many professional football clubs. We have also recently had a three-quarter length grass football pitch installed and there is three netball court sized multi-use games area (MUGA), which is fully enclosed. As well as this we have access to the local recreation centre based on the academy site, with access to a multi-gym.
Our expressive and performing arts facilities are of the highest quality with a drama studio and fully equipped dance studio with wooden floor, ballet bars and mirrors. The dance studio can also open out into the atrium space to transform into a performance area. Our academy hall boasts tiered cinema seating with high quality sound and light equipment and multimedia projector and giant screen. Thus, we have our own in built theatre to match any of the best of the local theatres or cinemas in Stockport.
Finally, our music provision consists of two IT rich classrooms with computer matrix, enabling use of computer software to enhance the musical performances. There is also a suite of three practice rooms and a recording studio with a mixing desk that would match the best of professional studios.
We have an open plan art studio on our second floor that is big enough to house three classes and contains its own computer suite and facilities for ceramic and art textiles.
Our Science specialism means we have seven fully equipped and modern laboratories, each with access to IT and a large prep area.
Each classroom contains an interactive whiteboard and multimedia projection system, with all teaching spaces carpeted and soundproofed, making the learning environment quiet and orderly.
Our Product Design facilities includes a food technology area next to the refectory kitchens, graphics suite complete with 30 PCs, a textiles workshop, electronics rooms and a fully furnished brand new resistant materials workshop.
Our bright and colourful refectory seats nearly 300 students. There is a host of giant plasma screens around the academy communicating academy events and allow for the provision of messages on a daily basis to the academy community.
Finally, a feature of the academy is the open atrium space with its striking glass roof. All of these facilities ensure that Stockport Academy ranks amongst the best school buildings in the country. Our aim is to provide a world class education in a world class learning environment
