Another Record Breaker… Stockport Academy Open Evening More Popular Than Ever

Our Open Evening enjoyed a record number of visitors for the fifth year in a row, with more people than ever before coming in to visit the school.

Visitors were greeted with stunning performances from the choir and a teaser of our upcoming production of Mary Poppins, while the SA Dance Group also put on a phenomenal show for onlookers in the atrium.

Elsewhere, Mr Campbell’s Science Room was packed for his live demonstrations, while students and their parents had the opportunity to try out some of the lab’s microscopes and even witness a lung dissection.

Our History department organised a murder mystery investigation, while in Geography, visitors could have a go at making their own volcanoes!

Other highlights included codebreaking in Computer Science, bookmark making in Textiles, fruit kebabs in Hospitality and Catering, word games in English, and mini-monster making in Art.

Students could also sample some of our co-curricular activities with Mr Molloy showing off his archery skills in the Sports Hall, and there was even the opportunity to sit in a real supercar – provided for the night by Lex Autolease, who were on hand to discuss their business links with the school.

Visitors had the chance to hear from Principal Mrs McCann in the Main Hall, who spoke about life at Stockport Academy and some of our wonderful achievements over the past year, including our nomination for THREE Secondary School of the Year awards in 2019.

Mrs McCann said: “We are proud to be able to offer our students an Education with Character, and the whole building was buzzing with a wide variety of activities demonstrating the range of opportunities and experiences on offer here.

“It is so exciting to think that this could be the first step of a five-year journey with us, and we are delighted to have welcomed so many people through our doors for Open Evening.

“To have had another record-breaking attendance is obviously fantastic news for us, and again reflects Stockport Academy’s stature as one of the leading schools in the borough.”
