Globe Theatre Visit Brings History To Life For Year 11
Our Year 11 History students spent the day at the world-famous Globe Theatre to learn more about Elizabethan history and culture.
The group travelled to London by coach before making their way inside the building and finding out more about the structure’s past – with the original theatre being built in 1599, only to be destroyed by a fire fourteen years later.
Students had the opportunity to sit and watch actors rehearsing on the stage, while their tour guide answered questions about their first impressions.
They later attended a lecture on the construction of the Globe and visited an exhibition that delved further into its history, which included examples of costumes and props used in the original productions that were performed hundreds of years ago.
History Teacher Ms Wills said: “Our visit to the Globe was a great opportunity to provide our Year 11 students with some valuable context around what they’ve been learning before they sit their exams this Summer.
“It was fascinating to see this piece of reconstructed history up close and to imagine what life must have been like in Elizabethan times.”
