Netball girls do Academy proud in schools tournament

Stockport Academy’s girls netball team gave a superb account of themselves when they competed in the United Learning Under-13s netball tournament.

Held at John Smeaton Academy in Leeds, they spent the majority of the day facing off against other schools and finished third out of a total of seven teams.

The girls won two out of their four pool games, beating the hosts twice to set up a semi-final clash with William Hulme Grammar.

However, they missed out on a spot in the final after losing that tie 2-0 – but they were able to leave with their heads held high having made quite an impact on the tournament and their opponents.

Team Coach Mrs Hacking said: “We had a fantastic day. The girls played with determination and guts, and put up a good fight. Both year groups worked really well together, creating an amazing team and making me - and the Academy - incredibly proud.”

A big well done to everyone who took part. All of the girls’ names are below.

Year 7: Maya Broome, Ellie Dickens, Olivia Heer, Daisy Joseph.

Year 8: Farideh Clare, Rebecca Cooper, Angeliki Dimitriou, Paige Doolen, Ellie Jones, Mackey Orchard-Stone.
