Records Tumble At Stockport Academy Sports Day
Students enjoyed an extremely successful Sports Day, with a total of 17 new records being set across a wide range of events.
In the morning, form groups competed against each other in traditional field events including javelin, long jump, triple jump and shot putt. They also went head-to-head for the not so traditional ‘welly fling’.
After an early lunch (that included the final visit of the year from the Stockport Academy Ice Cream Van), the whole school lined out by the athletics track for an afternoon of excitement.
Students took to the track for a number of races including the sprint, one-lap, two-lap and the relay, with another Stockport Academy favourite – the three-legged race – providing some hilarious moments towards the end of the day.
The final event saw staff take to the track in a multi-challenge relay that involved a wheelbarrow race, egg and spoon, three-legged race and a straight sprint. Mr Hargreaves narrowly beat Ms Foster to the finish line, reclaiming the title he won for the first time last year.
Mr Hargreaves’s form group echoed their tutor’s success by also winning the overall school title after picking up the largest number of points throughout the day. 10AHA achieved 171 points, which was more than 7LLW, 8SRO and 9MON who won in their respective year groups.
Head of PE Mr McGahey said: “We always look forward to Sports Day and the atmosphere this year was possibly the best yet. We are so proud of our students who gave their all, while the level of sportsmanship this year was something else – with everyone cheering each other on contributing to an absolutely brilliant day.”
