Stockport Academy’s Aspiring Authors On The Write Path

Students in Year 7 and 8 were given a masterclass on how to become a good storyteller by prolific children’s author Steve Skidmore.

Steve, whose titles include the ‘IHero’ series, ‘Monsters Like Us’ and ‘Action Dogs’, has written over 200 books and spent several hours in our library sharing the secrets to his success.

As well as discussing how children’s authors approach their craft and examining how developing writers can use their own experiences to influence their storytelling, he gave practical tips for planning a story and even used fancy dress to get students involved in making up their own tales during the session.

Year 5 students from Cheadle Heath Primary also visited us in the afternoon to meet Steve and hear his tips for themselves, which left them incredibly excited to start work on their own creative writing in the future.

Stockport Academy Librarian Mr Clarke, who organised Steve’s visit, said: “This is the second year we have welcomed Steve to Stockport Academy and he is one of the best in the business – we are incredibly fortunate to have him share some valuable advice to our students. Thank you once again for inspiring us to hopefully create some future literary masterpieces of our own!”
