Stockport Academy Celebrates World Book Day

In the library, Mr Clarke’s legendary golden ticket book hunt returned, with students frantically searching the shelves of the library trying to find the hidden vouchers and win a prize. Students also had the chance to win chocolates by completing book-themed word searches.

Elsewhere, we rewarded students who had excelled in recent reading tests, with special Literacy Award badges up for grabs for those who scored highly and sweets on offer for students who had achieved a high level of progress.

Student spent the last lesson of the day with their form groups, as the entire lesson was dedicated to reading. Each year group has been reading together every day during registration this year, and students made the most of the opportunity to spend a full hour reading as a group.

During this time, we also officially launched our Readathon – a sponsored event where students have set their own targets to read as much as they can to raise money for the ‘Read For Good’ Charity. To find out more about this, visit www.readforgood.org

Literacy Co-ordinator Mrs Cawsey said: “We have had a brilliant World Book Day and really enjoyed the opportunity to sit down and read as a school.
