Stockport Academy Scholars’ Club Students Onto A Winner

Two of our Year 8 students have been recognised in a national competition for their efforts to promote their favourite school subject in further and higher education.

Emily Rogers and Megan Barlow created their own ‘Histopoly’ concept as part of their Scholars’ Club co-curricular project. Based on the classic Monopoly board game, they designed it to encourage other students to consider History as a subject they could go on to study at college and university.

They entered it into United Learning’s ‘Future Factor’ competition, which pitted their idea against entries from some of the other 70 schools within the group around the country.

“We decided to promote History as it is one of our favourite subjects, and the game covers many exciting events through time such as the English Civil War, both World Wars and the Vikings,” said Emily.

Earlier this month, judges voted that Histopoly was the best entry in the whole competition – meaning both girls were to be rewarded with Amazon vouchers for their hard work.

“We spent loads of time on it – two sleepovers and three get-togethers – to make sure we included everything we could. We were so proud when we found out we’d won!” Megan added.

Head of Year 8 Mr Taylor, who also runs Scholars’ Club, said: “Megan and Emily put so much effort into their creation and it is something they are clearly very passionate about. They absolutely deserved to win the ‘Future First’ competition and I am so proud of what they have achieved.”
