Stockport Academy Spelling Bee Leaves School Buzzing
Our Main Hall was a hive of activity as it hosted our annual Spelling Bee.
A total of 40 students from Years 7-10 competed against each other within their Year Groups, attempting to successfully spell out words such as ‘pharaoh’, ‘cemetery’, ‘accommodate’ and ‘Caribbean’ in front of an audience of Year 7 students.
The winners of each cohort were:
Year 7 – Deegan Cockroft
Year 8 – Abdullah Baig
Year 9 – Robert Dimelow
Year 10 – Dean Sheridan
They then faced off for the title of Lower School and Upper School Champion, with Deegan claiming victory in the Year 7-8 category and Dean winning in Year 9-10.
Every winner received a £20 Amazon voucher and will be invited to our end-of-term Prizegiving Ceremony on the 5th July at Stockport Plaza.
Literacy Co-ordinator Mr Almond said: “I’d like to congratulate everyone who took part in our Spelling Bee, as the standard of competition was extremely high and every student who participated gave a really good account of themselves.
“It was also great to see the students in the audience fully get behind their peers to create a really good atmosphere in the hall and add to what was an excellent afternoon.”
