Stockport Academy shortlisted for TES School of the Year

Staff and students at Stockport Academy are celebrating after the school was shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The academy is one of only eight across the country to be named as finalists in the ‘Secondary School of the Year’ category of the TES (Times Educational Supplement) Schools Awards. It is also the first time ever that a Stockport school has been shortlisted for the award.

Stockport Academy is no stranger to awards success, having picked up back-to-back honours at the MEN Schools Awards for Website of the Year and Headteacher of the Year in 2016 and 2015 respectively.

Student achievement has also brought recognition, with the academy receiving the Diana Anti-Bullying Award, the national Discovering Democracy Award and the IAG (Careers Information and Guidance) Gold Award, all in the past 12 months. September 2016 also saw the Heathbank Road based school achieve its best ever GCSE results.

Mr McCarron said:  “Just to be shortlisted for this prestigious award is a huge honour and a fantastic testament to the hard work that everyone from students to staff, parents and governors have put into a school which we are all extremely proud of.”

The winner of the TES Secondary School of the Year award will be announced on Friday 23rd June at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
