Students Celebrate New Performance Skills At Festival Showcase

A group of our GCSE Drama and Dance students spent the day working with a renowned physical theatre company before showing off their talent to other schools.

The seven students in Year 10 got an early train down to Birmingham with Mrs Campbell and Ms Keough and made their way to the Crescent Theatre to take part in the United Learning Festival Showcase. They met members of the Frantic Assembly theatre group, who challenged them to come up with a performance at the end of the day based around the theme of ‘home’.

Working alongside students from Accrington Academy, North Oxfordshire Academy and Northampton Academy, the morning saw them take part in an hour and a half masterclass focusing on drama through movement.

In the afternoon, they perfected their act through rigorous rehearsals, before sharing their performance with their peers.

Drama Teacher Ms Keough said: “One of the best parts of the day was seeing how much our students enjoyed learning about this aspect of their subject. It was an opportunity to improve their confidence both socially and across their skillset – and they took it with both hands.

“I was really proud of all of our students today – they pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and were an absolute credit to the school.”
