Students Mean Business At Stockport Academy Careers Day

Stockport Academy joined forces with big business and career advisors for the school’s annual CEIAG (Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance) Day.

Year 11 students were off-timetable for the day to support their preparations for further education and employment, with a series of workshops and seminars on how they can give themselves the best chance at succeeding in the world of work.

The group spent the day in business dress instead of their school uniform, as staff from Timpson and Lex Autolease kindly volunteered to spend the morning holding mock job interviews with them.

The cohort also had sessions with Barclays Life Skills, National Citizen Service and The Skills Company, who offered advice on everything from how to manage your digital profile to what opportunities are available as an apprentice after leaving secondary education.

At the end of the day, families were invited to join students for our Careers Fair, which saw a wide range of further education providers and employers set up their stalls in the atrium to offer information about options available for the future.

Head of Year 11 Mr John said: “Thank you so much to all of the organisations who have given up their time today to make such a positive contribution to our Careers Day.

“This is a really important time in our students’ lives and the advice and guidance they have been given today will be invaluable in later life.”
