Year 8 Science trip out of this world
Year 8 students spent a day learning about physics and life in space as part of a trip to the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre.
The group visited the world-famous observatory to take part in a workshop that covered a range of topics within the subject, including a number of hands-on experiments.
From learning about gravity to exploring the site’s impressive ‘planet pavilion’, students also tried their hands at making hovercrafts using just a balloon, CD, blue tac and bottle lid – with some interesting results!
Another highlight was finding out how difficult it can be working in space on the International Space Station, with students challenged to use a screwdriver in zero-gravity conditions.
Science Teacher Mr Normand said: “Jodrell Bank is such an inspirational venue for the study of Science and we were really able to bring the subject to life by the excellent activities that were on throughout the day.
“I’m really proud of every student who attended – they were engaged and showed a real interest with their questions. Their behaviour and attitude was exemplary and they are a credit to Stockport Academy.”
