Stockport Academy Student Shortlisted For National Writing Competition

One of our students has showcased her writing talents after her work was judged to be among the best in the country in a national contest.

Year 8 student Farah Abdel Rehman - who volunteers as a student librarian - entered her short story, ‘The Shadow In The Darkness’, into the BBC’s 500 words competition. The challenge involves young people aged between 10 and 13 writing a story that contains no more than 500 words.

Her hard work has paid off after finding out she’s been shortlisted into the final 5,000 entries – beating 125,000 other stories to make it to this stage of the competition.

Stockport Academy Librarian Mr Clarke said: “Farah’s story tells of a terrifying encounter in the night and is both a gripping and descriptive read.

“She’s done brilliantly to get this far and we are all extremely proud of her achievement.”
