Stockport Academy Steel Band Bring Calypso Vibes To Sister School

Our Steel Band brought the sounds of the Caribbean to Manchester Academy to support fellow students completing their GCSE Food Technology coursework at the school.

The group spent an hour providing the musical entertainment at a popup Caribbean restaurant set up by Year 11s at Manchester Academy who cooked and served staff a delicious three-course meal.

It all added to a fantastic atmosphere with home-made table settings and a limbo contest making it quite the occasion!

The band played a wide range of tunes, from ‘Tequila’ and ‘Three Little Birds’ to ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and each was received with an enthusiastic round of applause by an audience eager to show their appreciation.

Stockport Academy Music Teacher Ms Stevenson said: “I am really proud of our students who learned an awful lot of new material in a very short space of time, before playing it perfectly in front of a large group of people.

“Thank you very much to Manchester Academy for inviting us to be part of their day, we had a fabulous time!"
