Adswood Primary Students Crack Stockport Academy’s Forensics Case

Year 5 students from Adswood Primary School spent time with our Science department to learn more about how the subject can be used to help fight crime.

Stockport Academy Head of Science Mr Campbell invited the class into school as a taster session to Science at secondary school, with students taking part in a CSI-style investigation to work out which member of staff had stolen his cookie.

Pupils conducted flame tests to analyse crumb samples, ran fingerprint analyses and used chromatography to match the correct pen to a note left at the scene of the crime during the hour-long workshop. After lots of hard work, they successfully identified the guilty party so Mr Campbell could ensure justice was served!

Adswood Primary Year 5 Teacher Ms Richardson said: “The children absolutely loved the experience today and they all learnt a lot.”

Meanwhile, Mr Campbell added: “We had a great time hosting the Adswood pupils who were really well behaved and eager to learn more about a truly interesting subject! We would like to thank them for coming and look forward to welcoming them to Stockport Academy again soon.”

The workshop will run again next month, with the other half of Adswood’s Year 5 students trying their hand at crime solving!
