Stockport Academy Police Cadets create a riot!

Our police cadet group took on the role of rioters at a special training exercise in Clayton Brook last night.

During the exercise, they threw everything from wooden blocks and firecrackers to smoke bombs at real police officers, who were practicing how to effectively contain a rowdy crowd.

The cadets actually took part in their own Level 1 Public Order Training last year, where they formed cordons and experienced the lowest degree of public order first-hand.

It won’t be the last time they’ll be involved either – plans are already afoot to return to Clayton Brook in the future as spectators, where they’ll watch rugby teams tackle the police in their riot gear.

Jennifer Walker and Shauna Hampton both took part in the night, and it admitted it was quite nerve-wracking at times!

“The officers had three stone of protective clothing on them and were running right at us. We were only wearing our normal clothes, so even though it was training, it was scary at times. We really loved it though and can’t wait to get involved again.”
