Girl power for Stockport Academy’s X-Elle Day

Team GB Olympic heroes Chemmy Alcott and Alex Danson have led a day of activities aiming to boost the confidence of young women in sport.

Our X-Elle day was designed to develop self-esteem, confidence, teambuilding and sportsmanship among Year 8 and 9 girls.

Students were joined by others from William Hulme Grammar School and Richard Rose Central Academy, participating in events such as yoga, Zumba, team challenges, confidence games and dance classes.

The girls also has the opportunity to ask former Olympic skier Chemmy and hockey team member Alex about their own experiences.

Head of PE Mr Sumner commented: “This is a fantastic initiative and hopefully the first of many ‘X-Elle’ events to be staged at the Academy. Inspiring women to take part in sport and drive female participation in sport is an incredibly worthwhile cause.”
