Fitness Fortnight kicks off at Stockport Academy

Fitness Fortnight gets underway at the Academy today, with two full weeks dedicated to encouraging healthy eating and active lifestyles.

There are plenty of enrichment activities taking place at lunch time and after school to get students involved, ranging from trampolining and boxing to badminton and dodgeball.

Additionally, free fruit and veg will be available at break and lunchtime for students to choose from, instead of paying for less healthy snacks.

A healthy eating session is also taking place in the refectory in the afternoon on Thursday March 5th, with the aim of demonstrating how to reduce the amount of takeaways and fatty foods that are eaten during the week.

In support of this, families are being asked to fill out a two-week healthy eating plan.

The fortnight has been organised by PE Teacher Mr McGahey, who said: “Our overall aim is to get the students and their families to live healthier lifestyles and educate them on the different methods of doing so.

“Walking to school instead of getting a lift or the bus is just one example, and hopefully we’ll be able to help everyone adopt healthier lifestyle habits they will continue with for long into the future.”
