Primary Schools Have A Fairytale Morning At Stockport Academy

Our Main Hall was awash with colour and costumes this morning, as primary school students from across the borough spent the morning at Stockport Academy performing ‘The Princess And The Pea’.

Reception and Year 1 students from Lark Hill, St Ambrose, St Matthews and Bridge Hall primary schools performed a sing-along adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale after spending weeks rehearsing with Stockport Music Service.

The story tells of a Princess who has a terrible night’s sleep on top of 20 mattresses because of a single pea underneath them all, thus proving her Royal heritage.

Students came dressed in all manner of wonderful costumes – including some very convincing pea pods – and performed numerous songs in between the narration of the story.

Jill Henderson-Wild from Stockport Music Service said: “We’ve had a great morning and it was lovely to see so many families turn out to support their children, who have worked very hard learning the different parts of the performance.

“We would also like to thank Stockport Academy for offering to host today’s show, and look forward to working together again in the future.”
