Action-Packed Easter SMSC Day Is A Hit With Students

Our Easter Term SMSC Day had plenty to offer students for what could possibly be our most varied yet!

Year 7 were treated to colourful and creative ethnic diversity workshops, with students trying their hands at Chinese calligraphy and traditional Indian stick dancing. They were also visited by police officers who talked to them about the impact of knife crime, E-Safety and anti-social behaviour.

Year 8’s focus was on healthy living and getting active, with our PE department organising a wide range of activities from trampolining and table tennis to body combat exercise classes with Mrs Campbell in the Dance Studio!

In Year 9, highlights included students hearing from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service about the ‘Re-Start A Heart’ campaign, MODE Rehabilitation about being resilient and Stockport Homes about budgeting.

Meanwhile, Year 10 students didn’t let the wet weather get in the way of the Outdoor Adventure assault course that had been brought in for the day to support the development of teamwork skills. In between working their way across the obstacles set out for them in the playground, students also sat in on a special seminar focusing on gang culture and an assembly by the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Finally, our Year 11s were visited by Lily Jo and the Christians in Schools Trust, who worked with them on practicing techniques to manage exam stress ahead of their upcoming GCSE exams.

Mrs Nicholls, who organised SMSC Day, said: “Firstly, we would like to thank the many, many agencies and organisations who have come into school today to speak with students and share their own knowledge and experience – we always ask our students for feedback and they had a great time.

“We are all about providing an Education With Character and this is never more evident than during our SMSC Days, which continue to offer students an excellent opportunity to broaden their horizons – plans are already underway for the next one and we can’t wait!”
